How do I request treatment if outside Ireland?

Please note that we cannot offer GP advice online, including consultations, treatments, medical/sick notes and referrals etc. if you are based outside the Republic of Ireland.


Where are the treating doctors based?

The treating doctors are located across Ireland and work remotely. Each of them is a member of the Irish Medical Council.

Do I need a NDLS medical report form for my driving license application?

If any of the following apply to you, a medical report form must be submitted with your application:

  • You are requesting a learner's permit or a driver's license in one of the C or D categories (bus and truck), specifically C1, C, D1, D, C1E, CE, D1E, or DE.
  • You have specific medical conditions.
  • You are 75 years or older.
  • The notation code 101 on your current driver's license or learner's permit states that a current medical report must be submitted before renewal can be granted.
  • You've experienced alcoholism in the past.
  • You've experienced epilepsy in the past.
  • You regularly consume drugs or medications that could impair your driving performance.
  • When a driver is 75 years of age or older, or when their current license or learner's permit expires the day before their birthday, they must submit a medical report form when applying for a license or learner's permit.
How to book a GP appointment for NDLS Medical report certification to obtain a driving licence?

A licensed medical professional must accurately complete the Medical Report form, and you must sign the declaration in their presence. It has to be submitted to the NDLS within a month of the doctor's signature.

How to book a GP appointment for NDLS Medical report certification to obtain a driving licence?

After you book the appointment and complete payment, a video link will be available for you to access. Please fill in the medical form and send it as an attachment across the platform via your online account for the doctor to review.

During the consultation the nominated GP will ask you a set of questions. Once the consultaiton is over, you will recieve a payment link to complete the payment for NDLS Medical report form completion by an Irish registered GP. Before the doctor decides to certify the NDLS medical form the doctor may ask for further information or request a physical exam to assess suitability.

Important information to NDLS Medical report form completion!

Your ability to drive could be impacted by a variety of medical issues and treatments. Please note that the list below is not all-inclusive.

  • No need to disclose if diabetes is managed by other medications and/or diet if it is managed by insulin and/or sulphonylurea tablets (your doctor can advise whether you are taking these or not).
  • Epilepsy
  • Stroke or transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) (*1) (minor strokes) with any symptoms lasting longer than a month
  • blackouts or fits
  • Any kind of surgery on the brain, an abscess in the brain, a severe head injury requiring inpatient care, a brain tumor, a spinal injury, or a spinal tumor
  • a pacemaker for the heart implanted
  • a cardiac defibrillator that is implanted (ICD)
  • (*2)
  • recurring episodes of abrupt, incapacitating dizziness
  • any additional persistent neurological disorder, such as multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, or Huntington's disease
  • an extremely serious memory issue or periods of confusion (*3)
  • alcohol abuse or dependence that persists
  • ongoing drug abuse or addiction
  • severe mental illness or issues with mental health (*3)
  • Parkinson's condition
  • insomnia syndrome
  • Narcolepsy
  • any illness that impairs your peripheral vision
  • Any condition affecting both eyes, or the other eye if the driver only has one eye, and total blindness in one eye (Not including colour blindness or short or long sight)
  • a severe hearing impairment
  • Extremely poor learning ability (*3) Any ongoing arm or leg issues that prevent you from driving anything but an automatic vehicle
  • Any ongoing arm or leg issues that prevent driving without a vehicle that has been modified (*1) A transient ischemic attack (TIA) is a stroke-related event in which the symptoms vanish within 24 hours (sometimes called a mini stroke). Although TIAs typically do not result in permanent brain damage, they are a serious stroke warning sign.
  • (*2) An implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) is a piece of technology that continuously scans your heart. The ICD is set up to recognize unusually fast or slow heartbeats.
  • (*3) If unsure, contact your primary care physician.
  • It is especially recommended that anyone with a serious arrhythmia that has ever caused loss of consciousness seek medical advice before applying for a license.
